HISTORY OF PRIDE AND EVENTS CALENDAR

Boston_Pride_Parade.jpg

Although now a regular way of life for many major American cities, Pride Month and its accompanying activities didn’t actually start to take form until 1994.

The early organizers were educational admins and teachers from the Midwest, and their movement was eventually picked up and celebrated by politicians and public figures across the country through the mid-90’s.

Pride month was originally organized around October because National Coming Out day lies within the month as well as famous days in LGBT equality efforts like various marches on Washington DC.

June didn’t become Pride Month officially until President Bill Clinton declared it "Gay & Lesbian Pride Month". For further inclusion, President Barack Obama updated June as “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month” in 2009.

Pride Month has brought joy to many cities, some of which Staypineapple is proud to call home . That’s why we’re excited to celebrate all those who participate under the Pride banner this June!
