ZooLights (Nov 29-Jan 6): $13+

ZooLights uses 1.5 million LED lights to transform the Oregon Zoo into a winter wonderland of lighted trees, animal silhouettes, and moving sculptures. Closed Dec. 24 & 25.

San Francisco

Cirque du Soleil (Nov 21-Jan 12): $49+

Hip Hop Festival (Nov 22-24): $47+

Christmas Tree Lighting (Nov 29): Free

Expect crowds at the Union Square Tree Lighting, which begins at 5:30 p.m. with singers, a chorus, a gospel choir, and visits from Snoopy and Santa. The tree is lit at approximately 6:50 p.m.

Made in Chicago (Nov 30): Free

Shop 70 vendors of locally made clothing, housewares, jewelry, food, and drink at Made in Chicago Market in Chicago Journeymen Plumbers (Plumbers Hall). Held in April, August, and November.

Boston

Holiday Light Show (Nov): Free

See “the largest tree in the northeast” decorated with lights synchronized to music to Blink Light & Sound Show at Faneuil Hall every half hour from 4:30 to 10 p.m.

Beer & BBQ (Nov 15-16): $60

Craft Fair (Nov 9-10): Free

Veteran’s Day Parade (Nov 11): Free

New York City Veteran’s Day Parade entertains 500,000 spectators as it goes up Fifth Avenue from 26th to 50th Street. The opening ceremony is at 10 a.m., wreath laying at 11 a.m., and parade at approximately 11:15 a.m..

Thanksgiving Day Parade (Nov 28): Free

With just a short walk from Staypineapple New York, you can watch as giant balloons, floats, marching bands, clowns, and performers take part in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
