Seattle
Savor Seattle Restaurant Week (October 23) $40+
A ticket to Savor Seattle Restaurant Week includes “tastings from five chefs featuring local dairy collaborations and three alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks” at Maslow’s By Farestart for age 21+.
Halloween Pet Parade (October 20) Free
Bring your pet to the Halloween Pet Parade in Volunteer Park, featuring pets in costumes, prizes in five categories (noon), a parade (12:30 p.m.), vendor booths, and food trucks at Volunteer Park.
Family Fest (Oct 26): Free
Fall Festival at Occidental Square features a pumpkin patch, a petting zoo, face painting, and apple cider in Pioneer Square.
Portland
Family Pirate Show (Sep 21-Oct 13): $16+
“Set sail on a high-seas adventure with a motley crew of bumbling pirates” in How I Became a Pirate, a slapstick swashbuckler at Northwest Children’s Theater and School for age 4+.
Halloween Virtual Reality (Oct 1-31): $29+
Uncharted Realities offers three Halloween options, including a terrifying experience for adults, a zombie showdown, and a kid-friendly experience downtown.
Costume Party (Oct 26): Free
The annual Halloween party at Punch Bowl Social has a DJ, costume contests, Halloween punch, and a different theme every year for age 21+.
San Francisco
Halloween Party for Families (Oct 26): $30+
A ticket to SuperNatural Halloween gets you trick-or-treating, dancing, face painting, magic shows, science, pumpkin carving, crafts, food, and drink at California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park. Separate lounge for teenagers.
Pet Parade (Oct 26): Free
The band begins playing at 12:15 p.m. outside Farley’s, the Pet Parade begins at 1 p.m. on 18th Street (from Arkansas to Texas Street), judging is at 1:30 p.m., and the band plays again at 2 p.m..
Halloween Pub Crawl (Oct 31): $5+
Check in at Mayes Oyster House between 6 and 9 p.m. for the Adult Trick ‘R Treating Pub Crawl, which includes drink specials at 8 bars. Costumes welcome.
San Diego
J.B. Smoove (Oct 5): $33.50+
JB Smoove is a multi-talented writer, comedian, and actor. He can currently be seen in the beloved role of “Leon” in the iconic HBO comedy series Curb Your Enthusiasm.
A Night with Janis Joplin (Oct 20): $38.50+
The Tony® Award-nominated Broadway musical A Night With Janis Joplin rocks Balboa Theatre on October 20 (2pm & 7pm). A Night With Janis Joplin is a musical journey celebrating Janis Joplin and her biggest musical influences.
Balboa Park Halloween Family Day (Oct 26): Free
The Balboa Park Halloween Family Day on October 26, 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., features dozens of free craft projects for kids, Day of the Dead-themed displays and activities, costume contests and parades, carnival games with prizes, live entertainment, and food trucks.
Chicago
Ghost Tour (Oct 5-26): $25
Take a 1.5-hour spooky stroll through downtown as your guide talks about the graveyard under Lincoln Park and Chicago’s love affair with gangsters, guns, crime, and murder on the Haunted History & Ghost Tour, beginning outside The Oriental Theatre.
Halloween Parade (Oct 19): Free
Arts in the Dark is a Halloween parade of artistic creatures on State Street (from Lake Street to Van Buren). Spectators cannot have face masks, backpacks, or lawn chairs. Afterwards, attend parties at Millennium Park and Maggie Daley Park.
Halloween at Lincoln Park Zoo (Oct 26): Free
Kids can wear costumes, trick-or-treat, hear music, make crafts, and visit the corn maze and haunted house during Spooky Zoo at Lincoln Park Zoo.
Boston
Fenway Festival (Oct 14): Free
Opening Our Doors has open galleries, art museum admission, art-making, live music, salsa dancing, storytelling, walking tours, and food trucks.
Race in Costume (Oct 26): $35+
Run along the Charles River Esplanade in your favorite Halloween costume on the The Boston Costume Dash 5K for age 10+, followed by an awards ceremony, costume contest, and after party.
Halloween at Franklin Park Zoo (Oct 26-27): $12.95+
Zoo Howl features trick-or-treating, creepy crafts, ghoulish games, costume contests, a haunted maze, and pumpkins for animals at Franklin Park Zoo.
New York
Pickle Day (Oct 6): Free
Buy a pickle on a stick or other pickle-themed food, take part in games and activities, and hear live music at Lower East Side Pickle Day on Orchard Street (from Delancey to E. Houston), where vendors once sold pickles from barrels.
Odd Street Art (Oct 17-20): Free
Art in Odd Places (AiOP) brings surprising visual and performance art to most of 14th Street (from Avenue C to the Hudson River). The theme in 2019 is “invisible” and features artists who are age 60+.
Halloween at the Museum (Oct 26): $16+
Kids can come in costume for trick-or-treating, magic shows, craft projects, music, and live storybook characters at the Halloween Celebration at the American Museum of Natural History.
