Winter in Bryant Park (Jan 1-5): Free

Winter Village at Bryant Park has a free ice skating rink with skates for rent, plus 125 holiday kiosks. Minors require an adult to skate.

Christmas Lights - Lincoln Park Zoo (Jan 1-5): Free

ZooLights at the Lincoln Park Zoo features millions of holiday lights, ice carving, music, carousel & train rides, food, and gift shopping (plus photos with Santa some days).

Late-night Comedy (Jan 10-31): $5+

The Second City After Hours: A Late Night Improv Show delivers an hour of improvised comedy with plenty of audience interaction at Up Comedy Club.

Restaurant Tasting (Jan 23): $99+

Taste samples from 70 restaurants, cocktails, and beer at First Bites Bash, a kick-off gala for Restaurant Week at the Field Museum. Bring age 21 ID.

San Francisco

FOG Design+Art  (Jan 16-19): $25+

FOG Design+Art showcases 40 contemporary design dealers and art galleries and hosts lectures by artists and designers in the Festival Pavilion at Fort Mason.

Harry Potter Live (Jan 8-May 28): $59+

Steps from Staypineapple San Francisco,  Comment start Harry Potter and the Cursed Child features the grown-up version of Harry, Ron, and Hermione who must “grapple with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs” with illusions and magic at the Curran Theater for ages 10+.

Free Museum Day (Jan 20): Free

Visit the exhibits at the Museum of the African Diaspora and enjoy “a day of performance and art inspired by the carnival tradition” to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Boston

New England International Auto Show (Jan 16-20): $7-17

The New England International Auto Show displays a wide range of vehicles, from vans and crossovers to hybrids and SUVs at Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.

Mind-Reading Comedy (Jan 11-Feb 22): $49.50+

Master mentalist Jon Stetson entertains with a funny show that “blends the art of mystery with the study of psychology, the predictability of human nature, and the power of intuition” at Omni Parker House.

Beer Festival (Jan 31-Feb 1): $75

Celebrate 80 brewers and 300 beers that push the boundaries of brewing at Extreme Beer Fest at the Cyclorama for ages 21+.

Seattle

Polar Bear Plunge (Jan 1): Free

Join 1000 people running into Lake Washington at noon to celebrate the new year at the Polar Bear Plunge, or just watch from the shore. Costumes are encouraged. Matthews Beach Park has limited parking. 

Art Walk (Jan 9): Free

Head to historic Pioneer Square for the January First Thursday Art Walk, when art galleries open their doors to introduce new exhibitions and artists. 

Seattle Chamber Music Winter Festival (Jan 17-19, 24-26): Free

Seattle Chamber Music Society’s Winter Festival at Nordstrom Recital Hall in Benaroya Hall has a free recital before each performance. Repeats in July.

Portland

ZooLights (Jan 1-5): $13+

ZooLights uses 1.5 million LED lights to transform the Oregon Zoo into a winter wonderland of lighted trees, animal silhouettes, and moving sculptures. 

Dog Show (Jan 15-19): $20+

Rose City Classic is a large dog show at Portland Expo Center. Spectators will find the all-breed shows that are held Thursday to Sunday the most interesting.

Comedy Improv (Jan 10-31): $15

ComedySportz is a “fun, fast-paced comedy show that’s great for the whole family” and incorporates audience suggestions.

San Diego

The Winehouse Experience (Jan 4): $20+

Mia Karter Productions is proud to present a tribute to the late Amy Winehouse, featuring her incredible original music and many of the classic hits she covered over the years. The Winehouse Experience is a celebration of the great icon’s unique style and artistry. “We have taken her live show and brought it to her fans, complete with a horn section, choreographed background singers and Amy’s individual flair.”

San Diego Restaurant Week (Jan 19-26): $10+

The annual San Diego Restaurant Week returns Sunday, January 19 through Sunday, January 26 for a delicious dining experience! With more than 180 participating restaurants offering prix-fixe menu options throughout San Diego County, you’re sure to find the perfect place to satisfy any craving.
