IT’S A VIRTUAL KIND OF MOTHER’S DAY
Mother’s Day is just around the corner and even though you may not be together IRL you can always be together through the miracle of technology. Living and working virtually has become a reality for most of us during the past few months. Let’s take advantage of what’s available in the virtual world and celebrate Mom’s special day “together”. Here are a few ideas that will hopefully make you feel closer to Mom whether you are miles away or just practicing the necessary social distancing.
Did you have plans to whisk mom away on her special day but now you can’t travel? We have a great gift suggestion for Mom with a pay it forward present as well. Check out the Buy One, Give One vacay layaway program being offered by Staypineapple. Mom gets a gift certificate for that future vacation and a healthcare worker gets a free room night as well. It’s a win-win!
In the meantime take some virtual tours together in these great Staypineapple cities. Think of it as research for when you can take that trip with her.
San Francisco - visit Golden Gate Park
New York - so many places to visit
Chicago - see famous works of art at the Chicago Art Museum
Organize a virtual happy hour or brunch with “Mom”-osas. Put together a simple menu and favorite “mom”-osa recipe and share it with the family. Set up a Zoom meeting and invite everyone to join. You can eat together, share family stories, and raise a glass to mom.
Here is one of our favorite “Mom”-osa recipes to get you started.
Pineapple Upside Down Mimosa
1/2 cup Brut champagne, chilled
1/3 cup pineapple juice, chilled
1 ounce cake flavored vodka
1 pineapple wedge
1 maraschino cherry
Watch a movie together
You have your favorites and so does she, chances are some of them are the same. Choose one and set a time to chat via phone or FaceTime while you watch. Can’t agree on a movie, there’s always the option to binge-watch that series you’ve been wanting to see. Make yourselves a big bowl of popcorn and settle in.
Screen share family photos.
Put together a slideshow of your favorite pics, choose a screen share platform, and scroll through the images with mom reliving the memories of a family vacation or special event.
Check mom’s favorite restaurants for take-out or delivery services.
Order her favorite dish, and have it delivered to her. You’re not only supporting the local community but there is no messy cooking or cleanup. And let her know it comes with a promise to take her to that restaurant next time you’re together
